New Cat in town

The news wasn't so good for outfielder David Justice, who was placed on the disabled list with a strained groin. Justice initially suffered the injury April 24 against the New York Yankees, missing eight games.

He returned to the lineup Saturday but left in the sixth inning Tuesday night.

To take his place, Eric Byrnes was recalled from the River Cats. Of course, he was the first player in the clubhouse Wednesday afternoon.

"You can't predict the future," he said. "You just try to take advantage of every chance you get. Right now, just being here is nice."

Barely hitting .210 less than two weeks ago, Byrnes went on a recent hot streak, hiking his average to .262.

"It's all about timing," he said. "I got off to a slow start, and it's only been the last eight or 10 games that I've gotten things going. I've just been trying to get myself right."

Byrnes delivered in his first big-league at-bat of the season, hitting a two-run triple in the eighth.
