If outfielder Eric Byrnes was disappointed about being sent down to Triple A, it didn't appear that way.
Byrnes, a fan favorite in Sacramento the last two seasons, worked out with the River Cats for the first time at Raley Field on Tuesday and smiled throughout the team's three-hour practice session.
"It's exciting to be back in Sacramento," he said. "I would like to be playing in the big leagues, but if you have to go back to Triple A, Sacramento is definitely the right place."
Byrnes hoped to make the A's 25-man roster as a reserve but was one of the last cuts coming out of spring training. There is a good chance Byrnes will be called up during the season. But if he isn't, Byrnes is prepared to enjoy his time with the River Cats.
"I'm just going to focus on having fun and see what turns out," he said. "But like I said, I like being back in Sacramento."
Byrnes is used to making the short drive between Sacramento and Oakland. He was promoted four times last season, the first just 25 games into the season.
